Professional Experience

Macquarie Group

Aug 2020 - Aug 2021

Technology Associate - Data Engineering & Automation

  • Designed and implemented Database models on the CDH for digitalization of tax returns of the UK region.
  • Designed the data warehouse serving front-end with PowerBI. Tech stack: Python, Impala (SQL), HDFS.
  • Built the ETL Data Ingestion and Transformation packages for the tax ecosystem, making process 85% faster.
  • Automated desktop instructions using Alteryx, Python and Java to reduce 1200 hrs. of manual work.
  • Assisted a startup vendor to create Macquarie’s KM portal an interactive front-end web app using ReactJS.

IBM Research Labs

May 2020 - Jun 2020

Global Research Mentorship (GRM) Intern

  • Worked on a neural network architecture for Question-Answering (MRC) adapted for IT support domain.
  • Implemented an Attention-over-Attention layer on top of domain-adapted BERT with dynamic-training process.
  • Team achieved the best performance on IBM’s TechQA task.

Coding Ninjas

Aug 2017 - Nov 2017

Teaching Assistant

  • Worked as a TA in Java-Data Structures & Algorithms classroom program.
  • Helped university students with programming assignments, took doubt sessions and debugged codes.
  • Learning Outcome: Strengthened concepts such as trees, dynamic programming and graph algorithms.

Research Experience

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi

2019 - Present

Summer Research intern

  • Investigate, compare and hyperparameter tune context-predicting (machine learning) with context-counting models.
  • Propose suitably tuned modified-SVD which outperforms recently released IndicFastText, trained on 5 times more data.
  • Created a dataset for Indo-Aryan language semantic similarity evaluation by translating RG65.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal

May 2019 - Dec 2019

Research Intern

  • Developed a tool to extract the glossary terms from a large-sized software requirement and subsequently cluster these terms to assist in structuring the glossary.
    • Investigate chunking & filtering pipelines to propose optimal key-term extraction using NLTK.
    • Experiment with domain-specific fastText embeddings as a semantic measure, which coupled with the Gaussian clustering is observed to perform dominantly, in contrast to existing tools such as REGICE.
  • Present automation framework to classify Crowd collected software requirements into sectors.
    • Analyze three different approaches a) classical ML models with statistically-selected features b) Deep learning architectures d) Transformer-based contextualized embedding models: BERT & ROBERTA.

Testimonials

Kushagra Bhatia worked as a data engineer in my team, where he developed an automated reporting solution. His work supported automating number of manual data preparation steps and reducing data quality risks and bring efficiency to overall business process. During the project, Kushagra demonstrated maturity in design thinking and solution ticked most of the architectural guidelines. He's a brilliant problem solver and able to pick up any concept with ambiguity but will always deliver the outcome close to the concept. Demonstrated solid programming background particularly using Python data packages in big data ecosystem.
As an individual he’s committed and managed to build trust in the project team. I highly appreciate his work and wish him good luck.
